Client: Barrick Gold - Eskay Creek Mine Smithers, BC
Description: "Eskay Creek" mine is a remote mine powered completely by packaged diesel generators, with some heat recovery. The balance of the heating requirements are met by propane heaters that are strategically placed in the plant as amenities. The purpose of this study was to quantify the cost of heat and energy savings potential that could be archived by re-configuring and improving the heat recovery system and modeling the following cases versus each other:
heat recovery only
heat recovery and propane heaters
propane heaters only
In addition, the study quantified propane savings, cost of operation and a full scope and cost estimate with a construction schedule.
Scope: SDE provided detailed project scope, construction grade cost estimates and detailed engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Piping and Instrumentation) for the installation of the new heating / heat recovery system.
